C.A.S.A. a Ballarò – Comunità Attiva e Scuola Aperta a Ballarò

“C.A.S.A. a Ballarò” stems from the impulse of an informal network committed to the urban regeneration of Ballarò, a multicultural neighbourhood in Palermo. Organisations, social cooperatives, parishes, schools, universities, shop keepers, citizens and institutions are involved in a unique participative process aimed at building an active community eager to dialogue, cooperate and learn in order to create a sustainable community welfare.

The aim of the project is to enhance the social wellness and increase the educational opportunities of children aged 5-14 living who live in Ballarò and deal with issues connected to social, cultural and economic deprivation.

In a community-welfare perspective, the interventions will be implemented along four main axes: schools, third sector organisations, families and neighbourhood networks.

ACTIVITIES

More specifically, the project will set out the following activities: street education methods, educational programmes based on peer education in STEM, school workshops aimed at enhancing soft skills; extra-curricular workshops aimed at preparing community events on topics such as intercultural awareness and  anti-discrimination strategies; summer workshops and sporting activities in order to promote a better work-life balance. Moreover, partner organisations will carry out several interventions so as to support parenthood (counselling services, training activities for mother-mentors, sewing and digital literacy workshops, tutoring sessions designed to allow parents to obtain a middle school certificate), urban regenerations initiatives, partner schools facilities enhancement and teacher training activities. The project beneficiaries are 620 children and 1200 families.
